GiesenLeenders is photographers duo Maurits Giesen (1975) & Ilse Leenders (1979). They have worked together since they completed their studies at the Royal Academy of Arts (KABK) in The Hague, The Netherlands in 2001.
In fact, every photograph they have produced since then is of themselves in disguise. They maintain a perfect balance between seriousness and humor. Because they are both directors and performers, they have total control over the final image, working in locations that are often nondescript, using their wry humor to make these places seem both odd and familiar.
Their first series Suspicious Movements won the Members Choice of the PANL Awards # 12 (Photographers Association of the Netherlands). The second series Mimicry has been published in Eyemazing issue # 2. They won the Silver and the Best of Members Award at the PANL #15 Awards in the category People/Portraits for the series Iron(y).
